Q: My wife has suffered from severe migraines for over 30 years after a roll over car accident. She has a prolapsed blood vessel. The headaches are directly triggered by low pressure systems.

Nothing works. No medication, bio-feedback, diet, etc. Medical professionals all want to try different drugs and ideas. None have ever come close to having any effect. The best we can do is give her narcotics during rain storms. Does anyone have a suggestion.

Hi Callcallery,

As a matter of fact I do have a few suggestions I hope you find helpful. I know it feels like your wife has been to every kind of doctor out there, but has she seen a "true" Migraine specialist," not just a neurologist who treats Migraine and headache?

See the difference is this - a neurologist, while a fine doctor, treats so many different conditions like MS, epilpesy, and stroke it is hard for them to be experts in only one area. BUT, a Migraine specialist is just that - an expert in one area - Migraine disease and headache disorders. These doctors do nothing but treat Migraineurs and headache folk all day, every day. This type of doctor may make all the difference. Read more in this article, Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? If you need help finding a Migraine specialist, check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists.

Now, for some Migraineurs who are triggered by weather pressure systems, some Migraine specialists prescribe medication to take before the front moves in. We have a question that will help you guys - take a look at Preventing Migraines triggered by weather changes and flying?

The last paragraph of that question has what you may be looking for.

Let me know what you think, and let's get her a "real" Migraine/headache doctor
