Q: Side effects of stopping sandomiran suddenly

Hi
I have been on sandomigran for the past 2 years and have put on 15kilos during this time!  I have recently been to the doctors and he suggested to stop taking the tablets (as we want to have a family) and start taking a stronger dose of panadol for the headaches as they appear and work from there.

My question is, has anyone else suddenly stopped taking the tablets and had withdrawals??

I sometimes feel a little dizzy and dazed and have started to feel extremely nauseas - i cant budge any of these feelings.  I have also found i have been extremely thirsty but no amount of water stops this thirst.

Hi Tenaya89,

Sandomigran is not available in the US, but contains the active ingredient pizotifen. According to drugs. com  "Do not stop taking them suddenly, or you may experience withdrawal symptoms, such as feeling anxious, shaking, insomnia, feeling sick and blackouts. Talk to your doctor if you want to stop taking your tablets."

So it sounds like this medications needs to be tapered off slowly. Please contact your doctor for help to do this.

Don't give up though, because I know how easy it is to feel as if you've tried everything out there, but there are so many medications that can be used for Migraine and headache prevention that it's literally impossible. You can find a list of potential Migraine and headache preventives in Migraine preventive medications - too many options to give up!

Good luck

Nancy
