If a food is a trigger, the Migraine can start anytime in the 48 hours following eating it. It varies a great deal from person to person.

Hello Eddie,

Having chidren that can't tell you the early signs is very difficult.  What I have done, since my headache usually comes in the morning.  I write down everything I eat, especially lunch and dinner, then if a headache hits, go back and start deleting that trigger.  When my son started migraines at 3, I finally started with basic ingredients and slowly added others, what I never added MSG, that was his main trigger, others showed up later.

The others we had to deal with were the lights at school.  They would start the sequence of events, and after so many triggers, here comes the headache. The reassurance you give, and to be able to let her talk about it, will help.

Sounds like your a very support father, God bless you!

Hi, my daughter is 6 and has this prelim. diagnosis too.  How is your daughter now and what did they do for her?

I wish I was able to more adequatly answer your question, but I feel that this question should be referred to either Terry or Nancy.

It was years ago that we had this situation and there wasn't much know about adominal migraines.  What we did was watch the weather, since change in weather is another rather large trigger and nothing we can control, however when the change came or expected, we cut back to almost a very basic menu, sent food to school and asked that he not be where any flourescent light were prevelent and particularly blicking at all.

The nurses were instructed to let him out of class immidiatly and let him rest in the quiet nurses room.

I'm sure they have something that could abort those horrible migraines, my son is older now and he say that he takes imitrex, but whether or not that is appropriate for children, I'm not qualified to say.

But I encourage you to contact either Terry or Nancy.

I apologize for misspelling, I'm starting another migraine from the weather change.

Children are precious and I'm so glad that they have now recognized that children are not "faking" to get out of school!

Please let me know what the experts recommend and if it works.

Nice to have parents who care enough to not stop looking for answers, keep up the good work!

I suffer from aural migraines and for me it takes 3 - 7 hours after eating triggers during the day (breakfast, lunch, or snack), or 6 - 15 hours after eating triggers at night (dinner).

In my experience, I've noticed that migraines as a result of triggers I've eaten during the day (breakfast, lunch, or snack) tend to last longer and be more painful.
