Sunday, June 29, 2008 denvermigraine asks

Q: What about the cause for the Migraine, DHE is my BFF, however want to find the cause

After many specialists and many meds, I found a Neuro here in Denver, Longmont. I have the DHE to adminster IM. Yes it can take up to 3 shots and 6 hours to rid myself of a horrible Migraine. I would like to find a DR. who will find the cause and treatment for the causes, and hopefully no more Migraine. I will be in TX , DFW and would like any suggestions. I would like to be DHE free, it is a nasty medication, however THE ONLY MED THAT has WORKED for me. He also has me on a prevemtive Amlytriptine (spelling).

I do not like taking the drugs and want to be able to live life w/o them and w/o the constant fear of a Migraine ruining the day or week.

My DR. has my RX written to be as many as I need for 1 year, I use 5 -10 shots a month, there has got to be a better solution.

Are we as sufferers just doomed for life???

Hi denvermigraine,

Migraine is thought to be a genetic neurologic disease, currently without a cure. One of the exisitng theories is that Migraineurs have overly excitable neurons in their brains. For further information on What is a Migraine? Click HERE.

DHE is an abortive medication taken more than two to three days a week can create another problem called Medication Overuse Headache. Our link to that information is HERE.

Please don't lose hope! There are over 100 medications used for Migraine prevention. It may feel like you have tried them all, but as you will see, that really isn't possible. Migraine Preventive Medications - Too Many Options To Give Up!
