what are the best treatmet for menstrual migraines?
I get really bad headaches around and during my periogets bad the left side of my body gets numb my left hand gets cold and kind of blue, get really dizzy and nauseated, and lately when the headache gets really bad I start to shake specially my hands and my jaw, I get the aura before the headache gets really bad my vision kind of changes, I tried different medications but they don't seen to work and every month is worst, so I was wondering if there is somenthing more specific for this kind of migrains. Also when I was in birth control it alter my cicle and it make it worst
Please let me know when you discover something that works..!!?? Right now, I am on Neourontin and it is working, but then I work up a week ago with a migraine..and IT is still here. I can't take the birth control, or any hormones. Kinda sounds like you are in the same boat.

Talk to your doctor(s), for years I thought I had your run of the mill PMS and suffered.
Last year I was diagnosed with menstrual migraines and was put on beta blockers (inderal) and axert for the pain, that worked for awhile. Now in addition to that I'm on topamax, so far my attacks have been reduced to almost half, keeping my fingers crossed. If you get numbness in your hands you may not want topamax one of the side effect I'm experiencing is the pins and needles (sometimes painful) in my feet and occassionally in my hands. Good luck!

Hi Ana!
I used to get horrible menstrual Migraines. They are not as bad now, with a good treatment plan. Are you on preventive medication?
I see you mentioned birth control making it worse......have you tried the 3 month packs like Seasonale? I've found that has really helped me, since you only get your period every 3 months instead of every month. If you've only tried one type of birth control, you may want to talk to your doctor about this 3 month kind if it sounds like something you would give a go again.
Also - I could never find a triptan that touched my menstrual Migraines, until I discovered Frova. There are now eight triptans on the market, so if you've only tried one or two, see if you can try some of the others. They are: Imitrex, Frova, Relpax, Maxalt, Amerge, Axert, Treximet, and Zomig.
Also, see these links for more info on preventive medication and Migraine information:

Good Luck!
