Q: I get migraines with aura i believe first my vision gets blurry and cant focus when i close my eyes

 i see different color lights ten minutes late i get a pounding usually over my left temple also feels like in my tooth.

I usually suffeer for 3-4 hours before it relents half the time i vomit. I have tried imitrex without any help i just feel like my heart is beating faster and i get cold sweats is their any other medication i can take for the onset of these headaches I have this since my early 20wnties i am 47 now

Hi Robert!

 

Of course there are other medications you can try! Imitrex is one of 8 triptans now on the market. Have you tried any of the others? The names of them are: Treximet, Frova, Maxalt, Relpax, Axert, Amerge, and Zomig.

 

Also, if you are getting more then 2-3 Migraines a month, you would qualify for preventive treatment. Currently, there are over 100 medications being used for Migraine prevention. We also have a great article here: Preventive, Abortive and Rescue Medication: What's the Difference?

 

Are you just seeing your primary doctor for your Migraines? You may want to consider a neurologist or better yet, a Migraine Specialist.

 

As far as the side effect you are having with the Imitrex, I would consider trying something else. You may be surprised and find something that works better with less side effects!!!
