Q: Possible for child to have ice picks & basilar-type migraine at the same time?

Has it been anyone else's experience to have an ice pick headache and basilar-type migraine at the same time? From what I've read, it seems that that's what's going on with my 12 yr old daughter. It's definitely ice pick headaches that she gets at the bottom back of her head several times a day (although less frequently, about 7x/day instead of 10-15x/day, now that she's following a gluten- and casein-free diet and also stays away from MSG, food colorings & preservatives). But at the same time as the ice pick, she also always has dizziness, ataxia, and loss of vision & hearing which resolve pretty quickly after the ice pick is done. I gather that the latter is not typical of the ice picks, that those are usually strictly the pain.

It's possible to have an ice pick headaches and basilar-type Migraines, so it's technically possible to have them at the same time. That said, it's important to check with your daughter's doctor to be sure that's what's happening, and that it's not something else.
