Q: Migraines and Menopause

Hello all,

I was wondering if any women have experienced a change in their migraines with the onset of menopause.  I've started going through "the change" and find I'm having more migraines and they are more severe.  Will this go away?  Will it get worse?  My migraine triggers are my hormones - when it is time for me to ovulate and the first day of my period.  So, I'm wondering, if my hormones are wonky, will my migraines be unpredictable?

Any input is appreciated!

Hi Mercury,

This is really the million dollar question. No one knows for sure how their Migraine pattern will be during and after "the change" as you so nicely put it. There really is no way to tell. Some women have a reduction in Migraine frequency, while others,  aren't so lucky.

We do have some information on flucating hormones that may be helpful: Video: Migraines and Hormones and  Role of hormones in causing Migraines?

I hope this helps,

Nancy
