When I first started Topomax I lost about 25 pounds. A year later I had to be taken off it because it gave me kidney stones. It's important to drink plenty of water when taking Topomax. I didn't know that at that time and only drank soda, iced tea or went hours without drinking at all. Thanks to that I managed to get kidney stones and those were not pleasant. Now 5 years later I am back on Topomax and lost about 10 pounds. I had to promise to drink the water. The Topomax makese a difference in my migraines. Not a big difference, but a difference.
I think the weight loss varies from person to person.

I lost 5 pounds in about a month after starting to take it. I was on nortriptyline before which caused me to gain a bunch of weight. I think Topamax just helped that come off since I didn't feel like I needed to eat everything in sight anymore. I would think the weight loss would depend on the dose. I've only taken 25mg-125mg and didn't notice anything. My sister took up to 300mg and she was still a healthy weight.

Since I started taking topamax I have lost about 50lbs. I have been on it almost a year and am taking 100 mg. I have found that I have to remind myself to eat, some foods still taste "funny" so I tend to not eat as much and currently am trying to gain weight back. I have had a hard time maintaining muscle although I am very active.
