Anyone have knowledge about post-menopausal headaches? I have had insomnia (not slept all night) for 9 years. That is the same time frame for my post-menopause. I am afraid to take hormones, because of family breast cancer. Any suggestions? meschow

Hi medschow,
There doesn't seem to be any real definitive answer on this topic. What we do know is that is varies from woman to woman. Some of us are lucky and don't have many more Migraines after menopause, while others aren't so lucky.
Fluctuating hormones do play a role in Migraine disease. This Ask the Clincian question may have a few answers for you: Role of Hormones. And this article Migraine Disease, Menstrual Migraines, and Hysterectomy has some good information too.
Sleeping issues may play a role in Migraine disease. Not enough sleep, or too much sleep may trigger a Migraine for some people. You may want to talk to your doctor about a sleep study. Transformed Migraine (TM) may be linked to sleep issues. Please continue to read more in this article: Transformed Migraine Related To Sleep Problems.
I hope this helps,
Nancy
