Q: Could contraceptive pill caused continuous migraine like symptoms?????

I was diagnosed with migraines after having headaches, nausea and dizziness for 7 days, it has been 15 days straight now of being light headed and blurry eye-sight, the headaches come and go (not 5 minutes of a clear head), the doctor doesn't seem to know or tried to see whats wrong and has booked an MRI scan, however I would like to know if the contraceptive pill could cause these symptoms before having the scan

vikram,

You'd never had Migraines before? Is there any history of Migraine in your family? Migraine is a genetic neurological disease. Oral contraceptives can trigger Migraines. If this started when you started or changed your oral contraceptive, you might want to talk with your doctor about stopping it to see what happens.

Please keep us posted?

Welcome again,

My Dad has severe migraines so it in my genes. .I have not changed or just started my oral contraceptive I have been on it for 7 years now without a break, the reason i believe my symptoms are connected to the pill is because I suffer these symptoms on my first day of menstruating. .I now believe these symptoms are migraine with aura yet never connected the two as I always believed migraines were just a severe headache and didn't realise hormones can affect them. I explained this to my doctor yet he dismissed this and booked me for an MRI which I have now delayed and hesitant to have as I don't have medical insurance (I am from England now living in Cyprus) and know it will be clear if it is infact migraines I am having. I stopped taking the pill one week ago and am waiting to see if it makes a difference, I just wish I had a doctor here to diagnose me instead of trying to do it myself so I really appreciate your respnse thank you

You're welcome.

You might also consider that the trigger for your Migraines could be the hormonal fluctuations of your cycle. This could be the case even though your Migraines have just started.

Unfortunately, there is no diagnostic test to confirm Migraine. Your doctor most likely ordered the MRI to rule out other causes for your symptoms. Migraine is diagnosed by reviewing your medical history and your family medical history, discussing your symptoms, doing an examination, and ruling out other causes for your symptoms.

Migraines aren't exactly headaches. The headache is a symptom of a Migraine attack. For a diagnosis of Migraine, other symptoms are required. Here are a couple of links for you:

I hope this helps!
