Q: I started taking Zonegran 100mg, Restoril 30mg QHS, Robaxin 750mg QHS & am hallucinating scary

Approx. 10 days ago I was seen at the Duke Pain & Headache Clinic in Durham, NC, by Dr. Anne Marie Fras MD, Timothy Collins MD, & Ashley Underwood, PA. to Collins MD.  I was given Keppra for migraine prevention 10 days ago at 500mg QHS, upon increase after 7 days to 1000mg QHS & after 1 night of that dose I had one hallucination that did not affect me emotionally, but began tapering off the Keppra immediately afterward per Drs orders.  Today, down to 0 Keppra, Underwood PA to Dr. Collins replaced Keppra for reasons above as well as other physical adverse ones easily remedied by taper & replaced it with Zonegran 100mg QHS, Restoril 30mg QHS (because I haven't slept in months which causes my almost daily migraines I've been living with age 9 to be much worse as well as my fibromyalgia pain), & finally Robaxin 750mg QID PRN.  I take other meds but pharmacists assured me of no interactions between these new ones & my routine meds that I'll be glad to provide a list of as well as further medical history.  I have just awoken for the 6th time since sleep began tonight approx 10:30pm & these hallucinations, NOT NIGHTMARES, have been more frightening than any nightmare I've ever had in my 42 year old life.  Incidentally, I was prescribed Keppra stricly for migraine prevention only, like the Zonegran.  Will someone please advise & I'll be glad to provide further medical history/info in needed for a more in depth response if someone will tell me just what is relevant so I don't write a novel about the migraine treatments I've received over for the last 34 years.  I have some good experiences I can share to those who may need a long-time migrainers insight with some world-class specialists such as Drs. Alan Finkel & Doug Mann at the Headache Clinic at UNC in Chapel Hill, NC, & physician affiliated with Raleigh Neurology in Raleigh, NC.

Anything that causes hallucinations should be quit asap with doctor's help. I would rather have a migraine. I'm 59 and have also had migraines since about 21. (had a complete hysterectomy at 38)  I take two antidepressants, anti-anxiety, Ambien for sleep, plus blood pressure, acid reflux & cholesterol meds. Eight all together and I'm so tired of it. But anything to help my problems is ok. I've experienced the hallucinations and other bad side affects. Finally my primary care physician prescribed Maxalt about 5 yrs. ago and it has been a life saver for me. I still get migraines but if I take the Maxalt right away it stops it about 98% of the time. They made me stop it for a while because they thought it had an adverse reaction to my antidepressant(Efexxor) so I changed antidepressant.  Thank the Lord I can take Maxalt again. Also my new antidepressant is Cymbalta and it is doing wonders for me. I also take a med called Lamictal for the depresssion. It was just prescribed for seizures I think before depression. I've been better with my depression than I have been in about 5 yrs. Just a note: They are also prescribing Cymbalta for fibromyalgia (which I have). I know you've seen some of the best doctors in the country but I just wanted to give you my experience. God Bless and good luck.

I saw the same two doctors when I lived in NC.  I can tell you that Zonegran (not the knock off one) worked wonders for my constant migraines.  For sleep, I take Sonata which is non-habit forming and you can miss doses without any ill effects.
