Q: What is the difference between Relpax and Imitrex?

I've been suffering from migraines since I was 16 and Imitrex always worked until lately. Now, it's stopped working and my doctor prescribed Relpax for me. What is the difference between Relpax and Imitrex? How do they compare to each other and how will Relpax affect migraines differently

Hi Genna,

Triptans such as Imitrex and Relpax work by binding to serotonin receptors. Each of the seven triptans binds to different combinations of serotonin receptors. That's why one may be more effective for a Migraineur than another.

The intended results are the same -- stopping the Migrainous process in the brain, which also stops the symptoms.

Does that help?

Nancy
