Q: How do you know if you are experiencing complications from a migraine or if you are having a TIA or a stroke? It's happened twice now, once with no associated headache and one with.

I have a previous history with migraine, but seldomly suffer them anymore. I have strong stroke history in my family. Have been admitted to hospital twice in last 3 years with all the symptoms of stroke. All tests were negative both times for stroke. First admission had no headache involved, then second did.

auguy,

You can find some information on this in one of our frequently asked questions, How can I tell the difference between migraine and stroke?

Given the history of stroke in your family, it's also important to discuss this question with your doctor. He or she should be able to give you some guidance.

Bottom line -- We all need to call our doctors when we're having unusual symptoms or a Migraine that's more severe than usual. Don't take risks. If you're concerned that you may be having a stroke or TIA, call your doctor or go to the ER.

Welcome again,

Teri
