Dottie,

That can be tough, but the bottom line is that it has to be done, or you'll probably keep having headaches called medication overuse headaches, aka rebound.

Taking Migraine abortive meds such as the triptans or ergotamines or any kind of pain medication -- prescription or over-the-counter -- more than two or three days a week can make matters worse by causing medication overuse headache (MOH), aka rebound. See Medication Overuse Headache - When the Remedy Backfires for more information on this.

It's perfectly fine to ask your doctor for advice and help with this if you find that you can't just stop taking over-the-counter meds. I won't lie to you. It won't be easy. If you'd like to talk with other Migraineurs and get some additional information and support, come join our discussion forum. You'll need to register again once there because it's a separate membership database, but you can use the same member name, email address, and password that you used here. You can find our forum at http://forums.healthcentral.com/discussion/migraine/forums.

I hope this helps, Dottie. Please let me know how you're doing?

Welcome again,

Teri
