Is it time to give up on Topamax?

Have been taking it for six months now, full dosage of 100 mg twice a day for four months. Cognitive side effects are about to cost me my job. Am I correct in thinking that this should have stopped by now it if was going to stop?

Thank you,

Allen

Hi, Allen,

Yes, if the cognitive side effects were going to stop, they probably would have stopped by now. It's time to make an appointment and have a talk with your doctor.

You didn't say what, if any, other preventives you've tried, but keep your chin up. There are now over 100 medications that can be used for prevention, so you still have options. Take a look at Migraine preventive medications - too many options to give up!

Good luck,

Teri

well if you don't have insurance i have taken topamax and it is a good drug but with side effects especially wallet side effects  god it is outrageous, ask about amiltriptilin or even cyproheptadine i have tried both they helped some but not totally, you know we are all different.  it is dirt cheap at the drug store maybe you will get some relief with it. if so you will not be out so much doe!!!
