Q: Anyone notice a change with the new generic Imitrex?

I have been using Imitrex for years and the tablet 50mg will stop my migraine within an hour and I feel ready to resume my activities in about two hours. I refilled my perscription and received the new generic. It took about two hours to get relief and then several hours before I felt ready to go on with my life. I though it wasn't going to work at all at first because it was so much slower. Has anyone else experienced any problems with the generic?

Hi rbcool,

The brand medication of any drug is the same as the generic, I believe. Certain medications may have different fillers and binders, but the medication works (in this case to abort a Migraine) the same way. You may want to mention it to the pharmacist and see what he says. And certainly if you find this happens again, if you can, go back to Imitrex. For some people the brand name is the only thing that works.

Good luck

Nancy

I think it took much longer too. I was not very happy with it.

I switched to the new generic too - I take 100 mg.  It didn't work at all, and I am actually using the brand name again,  Good luck, hope you are able to get relief again soon.
