Q: how do you hold a steady job with Hemiplegic migraines

I work parttime, I'm a hairdresser, and the chemicals bother me, but there arn't very many jobs I can do.  I'm almost 50, in realatively good shape, I work out and try to eat right.  After I have one of these migraines, I'm not much good for at least another two days.  Since I am allergic to so many things  and have a bad back and Knee, there aren't very many jobs that I think I could do.  I also need to be there for my kids.

Hi Trudy,

Hemiplegic Migraine (HM) is a rare form of Migraine disease. It may be difficult to diagnose because its symptoms may mimic other vascular conditions and can thought to be stroke or epilepsy. Here is our information on HM: Hemiplegic Migraine - The Basics.

It is important for people with HM to have a Migraine specialist treat them because of the complicated nature of the condition. We have some information on the importance of seeing a Migraine specialist, Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? Then you can look for a specialist on our patient recommended specialist list HERE.

HM is a chronic condition. With the help of a good Migraine specialist, a prevention plan and coping skills is may be easier to hold a steady job for some people.

We have a discussion forum with members who have HM (in addition to other conditions and topics) that you may find supportive you may want to check out. We hope to see you there. To get to the forum, just look for the orange box marked "Manage" and click on the Migraine Forums link. Because our forums are maintained by a third party, you'll need to register for the forum. You can use the same information you used to create your community log-in if you like. If you want to go directly to the forum, you can click HERE.

Good luck

Nancy
