Q: Should all the generic versions of 100 mg topamax look the same? round?

I have been taking generic topamax for awhile now (100 mg).  However, I now have a High deductible insurance policy, and I was shocked at the prices quoted. But one pharmacist did tell me to bring in my insurance card, it will often tell them that it will be a much lower price.  Now for my question, when I settled on a pharmacy and went to pick it up, where my pills before were white and round, these are oblong and grayish.  Does that sound right?  I haven't picked them up yet.  They are manufactured by Teva.

Hi Kitty,

There are quite a few companies who produce the generic version of Topamax -topiramate, and all have their own special markings. But be assured they have the same medication that makes it effective. The difference is the binders they use to make it.

I hope this helps,

Nancy

Kitty,

Nancy is quite right. Still, errors can occur in even the best pharmacies. Your pharmacist shouldn't be offended if you ask him or her to double check that what's in the bottle is topiramate. The tablets come in several shapes and colors.

I can't answer this directly, but...I always double check with my pharmacist and/or check with something like http://www.drugs.com/pill_identification.html

In Canada the generic 100 mg are yellow and round and the topomax are slightly larger with an N on them, same colour...the generic do not work for me.  the 25 mg tablets come as small white round with 25 on one side and again the original have an n on them...stick to the n

Um...and I always try to stick to the same pharmacy, consistentcy helps.

cheers, from canada
