Q: Has anyone here tried the new migraine surgery procedure?

Dr goes in and removes anything that may be causing constriction on the nerve causing trigger points. I had the procedure done in Las Vegas on the 31st of May and so far so good...kinda. Please respond if you have had this or are considering it....thanks

Hello Everyone!! If you have chronic migraines or your Dr. thinks it will help you Migraine Surgery is here and it WORKS!!! I have not had a typical daily headache since I woke up from the surgery. I woke up every morning to a migraine for almost 7 years. I have had two minor migraines since the 31st both easily treated one at local ER per my Dr. and another while at his office so he treated me and it was gone and did not come back, thats the way it should work in my mind. So am I H/A free? almost and I don't expect the surgery to be a cure all but DAMNED it sure has made life a lot more enjoyable. I was in and out of the surgery center in just a few hours. The surgical site was not uncomfortable at all really and its healing very well with no complications.

I'm glad this surgery worked for you, truly!

However, for other people reading, there are some things that should be known aobut it. First and foremost, not every Migraienur is even a candidate for it. It shouldn't even be recommended for a patient unless Botox works for them.

Second, even for those patients for whom Botox works, the sugery doens't always work.

Third, the surgery was pioneered by Dr. Bahman Guyruon, and now there are several surgeons in different locations around the country who are performing it.

I am not saying that it's not a viable treatment. What I AM saying is that it IS surgery, and everyone needs to investigate it fully before taking that step.

Teri

Important edit: I stand corrected. I had removed a link that was in this post because we do not promote commercial web sites, even those owned by doctors. I folllowed up and went to the site, and it is NOT related to the surgery developed by Dr. Guyuron. It is a different surgery entirely, one for which I have yet to see any clinical trials or evidence. I'm still glad it worked for you. However, the site offers a "cure," and I remind you that Migraine is a genetic neurological disease for which, at this time, there is no cure, including this surgery.
