Heidi,

-:¦:-•:*'""*:•.-:¦:-•*Welcome to MyMigraineConnection!*•-:¦:-•:*'""*:•.-:¦:-

I haven't taken butterbur personally, but there have been some clinical trials in which it performed well, and I've talked with some people who had success with it.

One thing about butterbur is to be sure to buy the type that is carefully processed, such as that in Petadolex. Butterbur can be rather toxic if not processed correctly.

Also, I advise talking with your doctor before you try this or any other product. "Natural" or not, they're still drugs. I hope you'll take a few minutes to read Supplements for Migraine - They ARE Drugs.

Please keep me posted on how you're doing?

Welcome again,

Teri

I tried it for a bit then was taken off of it because the docs at a inpatient clinic had never heard of it. I started up again recently because I went to a integrative and alternative medicine clinic, and the guy was big into vitamins and other ways than prescriptions meds to try to reduce headaches. It was ok the first time I tried it. I am hoping that this time in combo with the Co Enzyme Q 10 and some of the other things he put me on might yield better results.

Best.

My neuro, Dr Young at Jefferson HA, just put me on it.  Ordered it today.  We'll see won't we?  He did, however, recommend a specific brand for me to use that Jefferson has used/worked with and can vouch for the safety of the product (Swanson Vitamins if your interested).

I grabbed some CoQ10 off the website too because thier prices are great.  If it doesn't help my migraines, antioxidants are good for your skin, so why not?

Teri is right though. Talk to your doctor first.  Supplements can interact with the medications we're already on, so it's important to keep your specialist in the loop.

Thanks for the info. I just went to a nurse practitioner this week. She had never heard of it. My great doctor went on to help people who have no insurance and can't afford to pay. I've found that weather fronts are my main trigger. One of the downfalls of Florida so I'm not sure if anything would help. Please keep me posted especially if it helps.

My neurologist put me on it. As mentioned by others, use a Petadolex-treated brand. I use MigraComfort. 50mg three times a day. Important to know that it can take up to three months to work.
