my girlfriend likes to sleep cold with the airconditioner set low and the ceiling fan turned on high.  This causes me to wake up with what i can only describe as dehydration headaches similar to a sinus infection headache.  When the fan is on medium or low I sometimes feel a little dehydrated but without the headache.

I'm not sure what you mean by "dehydration" in your eyes? Do you have chronic dry eyes? I suppose dry eyes can trigger a "sinus" headache. But, most sinus headaches are actually migraines.

I've never heard of dry eyes triggering a migraine, but there are so many strange triggers, they might.

This would be a great question for our Ask The Clinician feature.

How strange that you should ask this because I sleep with a ceiling fan on and wake up every day mostly at dawn with the beginning of a migraine. I have found that natural tears help sometime..

I used to have this problem and went to the eye doctor...I did have chronic dry eyes. The ceiling fan aggravated the problem, and would cause headaches that were very similar to sinus headaches. He put me on restasis (spell?) it takes three months for it to be affective, but it worked wonders, and made all of the difference in the world. It might be worth a trip to your eye doctor to see if that is the problem for you, it is a simple tear test, and a matter of looking into your eyes. Good luck!

This animation shows one of the key causes of pain during a migraine--changes to the blood flow within the brain.
