Q: Can midrin cause a false positive test result for methamphetamines?

I take midrin for migraines. I also take morphine for a chronic pain condition, diazepam, promethazine for nausea, and zantac. I have random urine drug tests. My test always came back negative for illegal drugs. At that time, however, Midrin was unavailable from my pharmacy for about 6 months.  Two months ago my pharmacy had midrin in stock in limited supply. My next drug test, while on midrin for the first time, came back positive for methamphetamines! I was shocked to say the least because I have NEVER in my life used amphetamines!

If anyone is a health  care professional that can help me figure out whether midrin, alone or in combination with the other meds I have listed above, could be the cause of this false positive test result PLEASE respond to this message ASAP!!

                                           Thank you!

                                          Sincerely,

Christina,

I really don't know if Midrin could have caused this test result. Ask your prescribing doctor or pharmacist. The should know.

As long as you revealed all the medications you were taking when the test was performed, this shouldn't cause you any problems. The lab running the test should know of all potential interactions and potential false positives.

I have also had a false positive for amphetamines on a drug test while taking Midrin.

YES!  My daughter tested positive also.  She was in hysterics.

Since the HIPPA law enactment about a year ago, you no longer get to 'give' a list of your Presciption and non-prescription drugs.  I have had 2 false positives for Meth in the last 3 months --- Thank God I am a Manager, or else I'd be unemployed!!
