Any suggestions for a 3-week migraine that nothing seems to break?

Topics:Un-ending Migraine

I have had migraines for 23 years.  This is the first one that hasn't broken by itself or, at least, with one shot.

I have had immetrex, migranal, injections of toradol, DHE-45, DHE-45 + ridlin, DHE, & DHE? I, also, had a massage, adjustment, and acupuncture.

I am getting desparate!

My first real experience with chronic head pain...

Hi katbird39.

At this point, stopping this headache or Migraine that you've had for 3 weeks needs to be a priority. When oral medications have failed, IV infusions will often break the cycle. For more information about this, see IV Treatment of Refractory Migraines. Feel free to print any of these out and take them to your doctor to discuss with him/her.

When a single Migraine that lasts 72 hours or longer with less than a solid four-hour pain-free period, while awake, is termed status Migrainous. You should see your doctor or go to the emergency room if a Migraine lasts that long. See Status Migrainous - The Basics for more information.

I hope this helps,

Nancy

I've tried all of the above also.

Imitrex and DHE lose effectiveness over time.

try steroids or IV depakote.  I have also had success with three days of triple shot, haldol, congentin and ativan.

Thanks.  I have already had a shot and a complete round of steroids.  They lightened the migraine, but it didn't go away.

I will see about the triple shot!

Thanks again.

This animation shows one of the key causes of pain during a migraine--changes to the blood flow within the brain.
