Q: I need a medication to stop my headache from developing into a migraine and sickness.

I can not take Asprin or Anti inflammatory treatements, ie Ibuproben.

Before I develop a Migraine I do not get any warning as such, just the headache which gets progressively worse.

Felicity,

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by your "headache developing into a Migraine." Are you getting tension-type headaches that trigger Migraines, or do you mean you need something to take when you get a Migraine, before it becomes severe?

Aspirin and anti-inflammatories can't stop a Migraine attack anyway. All they can do is mask the pain for a few hours. You might talk to your doctor about Midrin. It's helpful for tension-type headaches and can abort Migraines for some people. If you're talking about treating a Migraine before it becomes severe, you could also discuss the triptan Migraine abortives -- Imitrex, Maxalt, Zomig, Amerge, Relpax, Axert, and Frova. You can find more information about these medications in our Drug Information section.

Good luck,

Teri
