Hi Janet,

Migraine is currently thought to be a genetic neurologc disease caused by overactive neurons in our brains and genetics. An attack can be caused by too much or too little sleep, dehydration, certain foods and even weather pattern changes for some people. Keeping a Migraine diary is a good way to see what may or may not be triggering a Migraine attack, and what medications are and are not working to stop the pain. We have a free diary you can download HERE.

Ice-Pick Headaches are short, stabbing, painful headaches that usually occur occasionally during the day or night. If they occur more frequently during the day preventive medications may be needed such as Indomethacin. Continue reading more information here on Ice-Pick Headaches.

I hope this helps.

Good luck

Nancy

Yes most definitely inadequate sleep can cause migraines and Ice pick headaches.  I am suffering from migraines and two of my triggers are less than 6 hours sleep or more than 8 hours sleep, also barametric changes can trigger migraines.
