How long after taking a Maxalt do I need to wait before taking Cafergot?

Fioricet is my normal abortive.  I also have a prescription for Maxalt and Cafergot for migraines that do not respond to Fioricet.  I know that after taking Cafergot I would need to wait 24 hours before taking Maxalt, however I can't find any information on how long I need to wait after taking Maxalt (which was not effective) before taking Cafergot.

When I asked at the pharmacy (military hospital), they simply told me not to take them at the same time.

Kestrel,

Fioricet is not a Migraine abortive. It's a pain medication, and it cannot stop the Migrainous process in the brain, only mask the pain for a few hours. It's sometimes used as a rescue medication if your abortives fail. For more information on the difference between abortives and rescue medications, please see Preventive, Abortive, and Rescue Medications - What's the Difference?

When you've taken Maxalt or any of the triptans, you need to wait at least 24 hours before taking Cafergot or any of the ergotamine medications.

Hope this helps,

Teri

This animation shows one of the key causes of pain during a migraine--changes to the blood flow within the brain.
