Q: What other options do I have for migraines--predom vertigo and light sensitivity issues?

I recently started getting migraines (4 months ago) and cannot find a trigger for them. I don't have a head-ache, but light sensitivity, vertigo, and nausea. I had taken immitrex and zofran since the immitrex made me ill. Now I am doing a second round of methylprednisolone with a beta blocker. My inner ear is fine, MRI, CAT scan, EEG all were fine--even when I had a migraine during the EEG. My blood pressure is low, 116/65 but the ENT specialists think I may need a water pill to flush the salt out of my system. I don't drink caffeine at all and cannot find the trigger. These migraines are happening 2x/week and interfere with my daily routine. Do you have any other suggestions?

There are several issues in what you posted...

Identifying your triggers is an important element of Migraine management and something your doctor should be able to help you with. You may have some triggers that you can avoid, thus preventing Migraines brought on by those triggers. When working to identify triggers one of the best tools is a good Migraine diary. You can read more about this and download a free diary workbook in our article Your Migraine and Headache Diary.

Imitrex is just one of seven Migraine abortive medications called triptans. It's well worth it to try the others to see if they work better for you, without the nausea.

If your doctor isn't able to help you, it may well be time to consult a Migraine and headache specialist. It's important to note that ENT's and even neurologists aren't necessarily Migraine and headache specialists. Take a look at the article Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? If you need help finding a Migraine specialist, check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists.

I hope this helps.
