Hi, My name is Tina, I just found this site today. I suffer from Migraines/headaches pretty much on a daily basis. I suffered from a blow to the head in '98 which caused white matter in my brain and cause me to have frontal lobe seizures. They are under control but now I have these headaches. I have headaches pretty much on a daily basis but when I am under stress I have migraines. Just the other night I woke up at 2 AM with a migraine that wanted to split the top of my head open. Any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated. I am currently on 400 mg. of Zonegran but I am going to call my Dr. and he will probably drop me back down to the 300 mg due to fatigue and lack of concentration since the increase. Thanks in advance, I'm just tired of living in pain. Tina

My first real experience with chronic head pain...

Tuesday, April 14, 2009

Hi Tina,

I'm glad you found us. The first thing that comes to mind is finding the right diagnosis and preventive medication plan. This may mean seeing a Migraine specialist rather than a neurologist. I'm sure your neurologist is a fine doctor, but it's difficult for him to be an expert in any one area because he treats so many different conditions like MS, epilepsy, stroke and Parkinson's. A Migraine/headache specialist treats one area - our Migraines and headaches, even though you are having seizures, this would be the best doctor for you to see. We have additional information you can continue reading in this article: Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special?  Then you can look for a Migraine specialist on this link:  Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists

I hope this information helps,

Nancy

HI!  I AM A WHITE FEMALE AGE 64 AND HAD MIGRAINS FOR 20 YEARS OR MORE.  IT FINALLY GOT SO BAD THAT THEY CAME ON A DAILY BASIS IN ADDITION TO ACCUTE REFLUX.  I TOOK MANY PREVENTIVE MEDS AS WELL AS ZOMIG AND RELPAX.

I TRIED ACCUPUNCTURE A FEW YEARS AGO.  THE REFLUX IS GONE AS WELL AS THE HEADACHES!  I CONTINUE TO GO FOA A TREATMENTON A MONTHLY BASIS.  MY HUSBAND IS AN INTERNIST AND SUPPORTS MY DECISION IN CHOOSING TO CONTINUE THIS TYPE OF TREATMENT.

I HAVE HAD MANY FALLS RECENTLY.  THEY HAVE DONE AN MRI AND I HAVE MANY WHITE SPOTS OR LEISONS IN MY FRONTAL LOBE.  FROM READING ON THE INTERNET, IT APPEARS THAT MIGRAINES COULD BE THE CAUSE FOR THE ISCHEMIA.  THEY SAY THAT I AM NOW AT HIGH RISK FOR DEMENTIA.

SO TRY EVEYTHING YOU CAN TO GET RID OF THE HEADACHES!

GOOD LUCK

This animation shows one of the key causes of pain during a migraine--changes to the blood flow within the brain.
