This is something you'll have to discuss with your doctor. For Migraine and headache prevention, the recommended dosage is up to 100 mg twice a day, for a total of 200 mg per day. Some doctors will prescribe more if it is working and they think a higher dosage will be helpful.

I have had the migraine demon for 24 years. Chronic as a teen and again for the last ten years or so. I have been on Topamax for over 3 years. For the past 1 1/2 years I have been on 450mg of Topamax (225 twice a day). You do need to realize that as Topamax goes up memory loss can happen.  Simple things, like the spelling of words, words don't come to your mind easily or people names. Your doctor can decide to increase your meds but only you can decide if memory loss is worth it. For me it was.-Jenifer

Yes I agree with the post above. If you increase your dosage more side effects will accompany it. I was on 100 mg for a while and I noticed having a lot of difficulty with my speech that hadn't been there prior to starting the medication. I also noticed the memory loss and I found my classes a lot harder than normal. I feel your pain though. While being on 100 mg I noticed virtually no change in the amount of headaches I was having - frustrating for sure.

I don't know how old you are but you should be aware that at the 200 mg level, Topamax renders your birth control ineffective.

It might be worth it to keep experimenting with topamax, or it might be time to consider what other preventatives could be better for you.
