Q: Will stoping a Caffine regimine help or hurt my Occipital Nerve Headaches?

I currently take 50-100 mg of caffine every 4-5 hours to help ward off my headches.  If I am getting a Rebound Headache from the caffine wearing off, should I stop the caffine?  My headaches most often occur at 3-4 am when the caffine wears off.  I take Imitrex which works quite well but makes me feel yuk.

Bob,

If you get rebound headaches from caffeine wearing off, yes, you need to wean yourself off the caffeine. Stop and think about it. If you don't, you're sentencing yourself to these headaches. Take a look at Medication Overuse Headache - When the Remedy Backfires. Have you discussed this with your doctor? If not, you should.

Good luck,

Teri
