Debbie,
If you mean a first-line treatment to be taken at home when a Migraine occurs, morphine would be an unusual choice.
The usual first-line treatment is Migraine abortive medications that work in the brain to stop the Migrainous process, thus relieving the symptoms. The most commonly used Migraine abortives are the triptans -- Imitrex, Maxalt, Zomig, etc.
You can find more information about the types of medications used for Migraine in Preventive, Abortive, and Rescue Medications - What's the Difference?
Hope this answers your question,
Teri
been there ,done that. No morphine just doesn't work, you can get addicted to it easily and then it can be a royal pain coming off of it.you end up having to increase the dosage. it's just not worth it , drather have the migraine, have had them since early childhood. there are other treatment options out there. If you doctor suggests this seriously think about it and get a second or third opinion
NO, NO, NO, NO! I spent a year on a morphine patch, as they didn't know what else to do with me, and I don't remember much of what happened during that year. It was horrible! I ended up cutting the patches in two, because it was too much, and they got mad at me...I asked for a smaller dose and they wouldn't do it! When I asked to come off of the drug, they told me I would just have to do it cold turkey...it was the most horrible experience of my life. I now have a new found respect for people that kick drugs.

THAT IS SO TRUE. I AM ALWAYS GIVEN MORPHINE OR VICODIN FOR THE PAIN BUT I RATHER TAKE THE PAIN TO TELL YOU THE TRUTH. SINCE FEB OF THIS YEAR THEY GAVE ME 10 PILL OF VICODIN AND I HAVE ONLY TAKEN 1. I DONT THINK ADDING AN ADDICTION TO A HORRIBLE HEADACHE IS THE ANSWER. GOOD LUCK.
PS. I AM 22 LIVING WITH MIGRAINES SINCE I WAS 12 AND I RATHER NOT TAKE THE NARCOTICS.
