Hi Spillar!

Verapamil is one of the medications that can be used for Migraine prevention. It is generally considered a safe medication, but we cannot answer that specifically for anyone because the patient's medical history and other medications come into play. You can read more abour verapamil HERE.

What we need to remember is our doctor prescribes medications hoping that the good it will do for us will out weigh the side effects. That being said, there are over 100 medications currently being used for Migraine prevention, so if one does not work - don't give up! See:   Migraine Prevention Medications: Too Many Options to Give Up!

Treating Migraines with preventive medication is a very important part of our treatment. The goal is to have fewer Migraine attacks. Migraine is a genetic neurological disease to which currently, there is no cure. Recent sudies show that Migrane can cause brain damage.

It is so nice to see that you are trying to learn more about Migraine in order to help and understand what your daughter is going through. We have some great links for learning about Migraine:

Another great referance is the book by Teri Robert: Living Well With Migraine Disease and Headaches. I just recently bought another copy for my mother to help her learn more about Migraine as well.

If your daughter is in need of a doctor, we have a great list on our site: Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists. Also see: Migraine and Headache Specialists: What's So Special?

Good luck to you and your daughter!
