Q: i am a migrain pateint i have been taking cafergot for 15 years with few dose twice a week,however these days i take it regularly eventhough i get relief i am afraid of it's side effectes what to do?

Cafergot (ergotamine tartrate and caffeine) can be used to abort a Migraine attack. Taking Migraine abortive meds such as the triptans or ergotamines (like cafergot) or any kind of pain medication -- prescription or over-the-counter -- more than two or three days a week can make matters worse by causing medication overuse headache (MOH), aka rebound. TO the question of what to do -- When we have three or more Migraines or headaches a month, we need to be talking with our doctors about prevention. There are now over 100 medications and supplements that can be used for Migraine and headache prevention. The frustration of trying to find what works for us can make it seem as if we've tried it all, but with so many possible preventives, it's literally impossible to have tried them all.
