pannilakki,

-:¦:-•:*'""*:•.-:¦:-•*Welcome to MyMigraineConnection!*•-:¦:-•:*'""*:•.-:¦:-

Preventive medications such as the toprol your doctor prescribed can take up to three months to begin working. Is this a headache or a Migraine that you're having? Medications such as Suminat don't work for headaches. For purposes of answering your question, I'm going to go on the premise that this is a Migraine. There are seven medications in that family (triptans). If one doesn't work, it's worth trying the others to see if they will work.

That said, unfortunately, there can be times when a Migraine just doesn't respond to the medications we have, and it goes on and on. If your regular medications haven't stopped this Migraine by now, it's time to call your doctor for help. Sometimes, a steroid taper such as a Medrol DosePack will break the Migraine. Sometimes, the best treatment for intractable Migraines that aren't responding to medications is IV infusion therapy to get the cycle broken. For more information, see IV Treatment of Refractory Migraine. As much as I'd love to be able to tell you what to do next, the only person who can do that is your doctor who can review your and your family's medical history, discuss your symptoms with you, and conduct a complete examination. Nobody can tell you what to do next via the Internet other than to tell you that you need to call or see your doctor again.

I'm sorry you're in this situation and can really relate to you because it's happened to me.

Please keep me posted on how you're doing?

Welcome again,

Teri

If the meds aren't working, don't be afraid to call your doctor back and let them know.  They can call in different meds to try.  Keep trying.  I had a bad migraine last January that lasted over 7 days.  I had to go through multiple trials of meds to finally get something to work.  In the end a long dose of prednisone was what helped for me.  Hope you get to feeling better!  I so know the frustration of pain and trying to study, it's not fun.  Worse was when I was studying for exams and my wisdom teeth started pushing up (and they were all impacted).  That was worse than my migraines!!!
