Hi Linday,

I'm sorry you aren't feelin well. Any new diagnosis can be scary, but learning all you can about it (Hemiplegic Migraine aka HM) will be the best thing you can do for yourself. Just as important is an accurate diagnosis. Hemiplegic Migraine is a fairly rare type of Migraine which is often difficult to diagnose because its symptoms can be similar to stroke, epilepsy and other vascular conditions. A complete neurological exam, review of your symptpoms, you and your family's history and any blood work to be determined by the doctor, is needed in order to correctly diagnose this condition. You can read more about HM in Hemiplegic Migraine - The Basics.

If you are not getting the help you need from your doctor, it may be time to see a doctor who specializes in headache medicine.  It's important to note that neurologists aren't necessarily Migraine and headache specialists. Take a look at the article Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? If you need help finding a Migraine specialist, check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists.

Good luck
