Hi Lisa,

Dihydroergotamine nasal is the generic form of Migranal nasal spray. Your local pharmacist will have information on how your doctors office and patients can get it.

Good luck

I did not know DHE was now available in a nasal spray!  How long has that been out.  I would like to tell my doc about that and try it as a rescue med, because I too did well with ergots, and they became less available when the tiptans came out.

Teri -  Just what is Migranal Nasal spray?  Is it different from DHE or Stadol? What is its composition and when is it designed to be used?  Thanks for your reply.

Migranal is DHE in nasal spray form. As DHE, it's a Migraine abortive medication meant to be taken as soon as you realize you have a Migraine.

Stadol, on the other hand, it an opioid pain medication in nasal spray form. It cannot abort a Migraine.

Teri - Thanks for the information.  I am going to pass this on to my doc as a possibility for me to see if it works as a rescue me for the really bad migraines, not the daily ones that are lower on the scale.

I used Stadol which is a nasal spray for a long time in the 90's until it stopped working.  It is manufactured by Omnaris, and if you go to their website you can order it from them for practically no charge.  I hear though, they they have been having some problems with the drug being addictive, and it was taken off the market for a while because of that.  You should check on the status of that with your doctor before using it, but it sure worked like a charm for me, that is until it stopped working, and then I had to stop using it.

I also tried a lidocaine spray, manufactured by Roxane.  The theory was that it would pass through the mucous mebranes in the nose and go right to the ice pick in my nose and relieve some of the pain.  That it did not do.  It just made my nasal passage numb and was a complete failure as a nasal spray, so if anyone suggests it, I would say no to that one.  Good luck with these options!
