Deepa,
We don't really have statistics on the success rate of Topamax for Migraine prevention, even for adults. We'll probably never have such statistics for children as it's unlikely that there will ever be trials of Topamax for young children for Migaine prevention.
How long did your daughter try periaction? Elavil? It can take up to three months to know if such medications are going to work.
Before starting Topamax for your daughter, I'd suggest you take a good look at the information about its potential side effects. You can find that information in our section of Topamax Info. Topamax has some serious potential side effects. Just my personal opinion, but I would not give Topamax to a child that age unless there were no other options because I'm not sure a six-year-old could recognize side effects and tell you about them.
There are many, many other options. I know how easy it is to feel as if you've tried everything out there, but there are so many medications that can be used for Migraine and headache prevention that it's literally impossible. You can find a list of potential Migraine and headache preventives in Migraine preventive medications - too many options to give up!
If your daughter's doctor isn't able to help, it may well be time to consult a Migraine and headache specialist. It's important to note that neurologists aren't necessarily Migraine and headache specialists. Take a look at the article Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? If you need help finding a Migraine specialist, check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists. Within that listing, there's a section dedicated to pediatric specialists.
Hope this helps!
Teri

Deepa, I am a 40 yr old adult and coming off Topamax for migraines. I would never give this medication to a child who may have trouble communicating and understanding the side effects. I have suffered from migraines since I was a child, my children also suffer, they will never take Topamax after watching what the side effects did to me. This is a serious medication and most doctors do not reccomend it for children. You should read up on it.
