My first real experience with chronic head pain...

Hi kingfisher,

Follow your doctors orders! But really, for purposes of treatment, learning about your Migraines, and being able to get care if you're away from home, etc., you need a full diagnosis of what type of Migraine you have. You'd get that from your doctor, but in  meantime if you'd like, you can read more about this in The Type of Migraine Does Matter.

A Migraine has more symptoms other than headache -- nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light or sound. You can read more about the phases of a Migraine attack and their symptoms in Anatomy of a Migraine. This is one of my favorite articles.

I hope this helps,

Nancy

Wow! Entire books are written to answer this question, kingfisher!

Seriously, this is too broad a question to be answered. The first thing I should do when a Migraine starts may well be very different from what you should do.

There simply isn't ONE answer to this.

As Nancy said, check with your doctor and come up with a plan that fits you.
