Hello:   Indeed I have Hemiplegic Migraine and 1st and only full stroke like episode when I was about 57 years old.   All tests were ran that were possible and my migraine specialist let me out of the hospital when he cleared all tests for other possibilities.   My children are biologists and are  very aware of the genetic connection.  all symptoms were temporary, and do not use any migraine preventative meds because of the side effects. and they do not hold the incidence of aura down.   Rain & weather seem to be the biggest triggers.  My son and on of my daughters get migraine and migraine with aura.   Since status migraine will continue, I use the lowest dose of dexamethazone possible, and discontinue it as soon as possible.  My auras are a bit psychedelic, but I am not concerned about them any more.     Calcium blockers have been considered, because I respond poorly to inderal which used to helped a lot.   I seem to have a lot of migraine aura visually, fogged thinking, hear strange stuff, have frozen face and droopy eye.     I now am trying the 2 month of lowest dose thyroid med possible, and will see what happens.   I am now 64 years old and migraine pain is not so intense, but the other symptoms still are around.   My migraine neurologist has another older lady who has the same diagnosis in his practice in so calif.   Seems that the situation that has been described as text book is now more common.   I do have a good migraine dr. who studied at the Diamond Headache Clinic and mixes accupunture with traditional migraine pharacology with some success.    Anemia has been a problem for me because I easily bleed from  NSAIDS.   Thanks for your concern and interest.   Mary Julia McIntyre, 514 Breck Ct., Benicia, CA   94510    310-544-2850
