Misty,

-:¦:-•:*'""*:•.-:¦:-•*Welcome to MyMigraineConnection!*•-:¦:-•:*'""*:•.-:¦:-

Pain medications aren't the best answer for headaches caused by pseudotumor cerebri, and no, pain medications often don't work. Quite often, the headaches are stopped only when the cerebrospinal fluid pressure is controlled.

In most cases, pseudotumor cerebri can be controlled by reducing the cerebrospinal fluid pressure to normal range with a lumbar puncture, then using daily medications to keep the fluid level and pressure down. In cases where that doesn't work, shunts are one option. In your case, I have no way of knowing how this is impacted by the Chiari malformation.

Since it seems that your doctor has quit trying to help you, I'd suggest consulting a Migraine and headache specialist. It's important to note that neurologists aren't necessarily Migraine and headache specialists. Take a look at the article Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? If you need help finding a Migraine specialist, check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists. Certainly, if you contact a reputable Migraine specialist who cannot help you, he or she would be able to recommend another doctor who can.

Please keep us posted?

Welcome again,

Teri
