I hit the top of my head 16yrs ago, i was asked by my pain specialist to look into ONS
1. hit my head on castiron pipe 16yrs ago and have had extreme headaches ever since, 2. having been having injections in my neck which are only lasting 2-3 weeks, 3 Pain specialist is having me read up on Occipital Nerve stimulation, 4 I take an extreme amount of ibuprophen (the only thing that limits the head pain), 5 How do you tell if you are a candidate for this procedure?

The general rule of thumb in deciding if someone is a good candidate for ONSTIM is to try nerve blocks in the occipital region. If they work, ONSTIM could be helpful; if they don't, it's thought that ONSTIM probably won't either.
It should be noted that ONSTIM is not yet FDA approved for the relief of headache and Migraine. You can read more about it in Occipital Nerve Stimulation for Migraine and Headache Prevention - 2008 Update.
Hope this helps,
Teri
