Q: So am I having migraines or head aches? If so how can I reduce the pain or cope with it?

Well, lately I have been trying to find ways to reduce the pains of my migraines or headaches. So am I having migraines or head aches? If so how can I reduce the pain or cope with it? Well my triggers is physical activity. When I get this pain, my vision blurs to a point where taking off my glasses (without this pain) is the same as wearing my glasses. Then a sharp pain enters my head and usually I would use a over the counter painkillers which don't work at all. I sleep in a dark, quiet, and cold room once I feel it flaring up. Don't say, "Don't do any physical activity." because I have been planning to join a sport and I want to really badly. Seems like I love running, but it seems like running is killing me slowly which affects me in school greatly. Any tips?

As Kat said, the only person who can diagnose and tell you if these are Migraines or headaches is a doctor who can review your and your family's medical history, discuss your symptoms with you, and conduct a complete examination. If you don't know if there's a history of Migraine in your family, ask family members. Since Migraine tends to be hereditary, that can help your doctor in diagnosing you.

Exercise can trigger both Migraines and headaches. Here are a couple of articles that have some basic information for you:

Whether you're having headaches or Migraines, a doctor can help you find a treatment that can prevent them and allow you to consider an active lifestyle.

If your doctor isn't able to help you, it may well be time to consult a Migraine and headache specialist. It's important to note that neurologists aren't necessarily Migraine and headache specialists. Take a look at the article Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? If you need help finding a Migraine specialist, check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists.

Welcome again,

Only a doctor can tell you if you are experiencing headaches or migraines.  Once you have a proper diagnosis, you can work on prevention and treatment of your head pain.
