Q: Does acupuncture work to aleviate migraine pain?

I have classic and common migraine with and without aura (mostly with). Most medications that work for the majority of people, have not worked for me (either preventitively or rescue). I'd prefer a non-medication route at this point. Some of the headaches are menstral cycle related but not most.

Hi Blarney,

It may feel like you have tried all the medications there are out there for Migraine with arua and Migraine without aura, but that really isn't possible! Don't lose hope there are over 100 available. Migraine Preventive Medications - Too Many Options To Give Up!

Acupuncture works for some people in conjunction with tradtional medicine, other have luck with it alone. I have not had experience with acupuncture, but have done acupressure. This has allowed me to relax at will, but has not done much to help my pain levels, I'm sorry to say.

Menstrual Migraine is something I'm familiar with. I take Axert, an abortive, during my cycle and it works well for me. We have some questions from 'Ask the Clinician' on this topic you can see HERE and HERE.

Good luck

Nancy
