Hi, I went to a chiropractor for a while but I don't think that it did anything to help my headaches. I can also pop my own neck and back so I just thought it was a waste of money after a while. It could be helpful to someone who can't do it themselves though.
I have no idea about accupuncture but my mom is begging me to go see a special kind of message therapist. I think its something like trigger point. I'll let you know if it helps
It's funny. I new to this site but see a lot of questions about things I have tried.
Chiropractic and accupunture did little to help my headaches although I found both experiences great, loved the chiropractic on my back.
Of the alternative practices, massage seems the most helpful to me but not to abort an attack. I get massages every now and then. When I was younger and head way more headaches, I got a half massage every week.
none of the preventives work for me. I tried chiropractive, reflexology, accupressure (not accupuncture), and biofeedback and relaxation exercises, finally a total hystrectomy - still no help. However, at this point things are better than they have been in years. For one thing, I moved back to AZ - weather changes-barometer - kill me and my son so AZ helps reduce that trigger for me. The last 3 neurologists who deal with pain management and migraines told me they didn't know what else to do, although they didn't like what I was doing and gave me my money back. Bottom line is I take a lot of pain meds, and yes I know about rebound, but the rebound headache is different than the actual migranes. At this point I wear a duragesic patch, take fiorinal, take promethizine for nausea, have a shot of nubain once a week, and use stadol as my last line of defense. While this would not be good for a lot of people, the end result is that since the summer of 2006, I have only had 3 Er visit, which is a record for me. I think everyone is different, everyone responds differently and it's worth trying all of it, becuase you don't know what might work for you unless you try it. My son, my daughter, my nephew, my 3 sisters, my mother, my paternal grandmother, and a half brother i've never met all has migraines - the one sister had them since she was little as has my son and her son. The othr 2 developed them when they were about 30, just like I DID. ONe sister found that toprol for her high blood pressure resolved the migraines. I tried it, I don't have high blood pressure, but I had side effec problems without ever fnding out if it worked on the head. With so many triggers for this disease, I believe all things are worth trying. And while massage therapy didn't really help the head, it did help me to calm down and therefore have more energy to deal with the situation.
