Hi Sally,

If one has chiari malformation and is not symptomatic then it is usually not a problem. But, if one is experiencing intractable (hard to treat) headaches and other symptoms, I would think another opinion would be a good idea. You may want to see a Migraine specialist who is an expert in headache disorders.  It's important to note that neurologists aren't necessarily Migraine and headache specialists. Take a look at the article Migraine and Headache Specialists - What's So Special? If you need help finding a Migraine specialist, check our listing of Patient Recommended Migraine and Headache Specialists

Having said that, only a qualified medical professional who can go over your medical history, your family's medical history, review your symptoms, and give you a complete medical exam can really answer this question. I would go see another doctor!!

Good luck, and keep us posted.
