A steroid taper is a course of steroids prescribed for breaking a long Migraine that is not responding to medications. The most commonly prescribed taper is the Medrol DosePack. It's a blister-packaged card with specific dosages to be taken each day until completed. The largest dose is on the first day, and it decreases each day. There are different dosages. The duration is usually sever days.

The various times I've had steriod tapers it is has been the use of prednisone with the intention of stopping a cycle of migraine, where they have become chronic. I believe the usual dosage is run for a week for example, 3 for 2 days, 2 for 2 days etc. until 1/2 for 2 days. I have had a longer dosage that ran for 14 days. Generally you are advised not to use any rescue meds during the time in order to break the cycle. I hope this helps some.
