Q: Suggestions?

I'm headed to the doctor tomorrow to try some new scripts for my migraines. I've had them off and on for the last 13 years, with them getting worse and worse as I've gotten older. I have had to be taken to the ER five times this year alone.

In the past I have had no luck at all with preventatives or abortives. It has been several years since I've had health insurance though so hopefully there is something new and fabulous out there. Is there anything out there that anyone is having success with? I know it's a broad question but just hoping to go to my doctor with some ideas. (just my GP, it's a wait for a specialist)

Hi rrg182,

Sorry we didn't get back to you. We are in L.A. at a headache conference. So this information may be late, but you can take it with you the next time you head to the doctors.

I'm not sure if you are aware, but it can take up to three months before we see a reduction in our Migraine frequency and severity when we start new medications. Many times we don't get this information about new meds, and when our Migraines don't get better in a few days after we started the medication, we are disappointed. Sometimes we can even try medications a second time and get better results.

Don't lose hope because there are over 100 medications available to treat Migraine disease. The frustration of trying to find what works for us can make it seem as if we’ve tried it all and I understand that, but with so many possible preventives, it’s literally impossible to have tried them all. See Migraine preventive medications – too many options to give up! for more information.

How did your doctors appointment go?
