Q: 9/10/07 response managing migraines pregnancy...

PCOS condition using clomiphene & provera at present -- seems to actually cause worse head pain. Any updates or info is helpful managing migraines & pregnancy would be helpful. We are currently living outside of the USA and so my fabulous neuro and ob/gyn specialists that had planned to work closely together are at home and we are in another country for husband's work not sure when we will be stateside. We are trying to have baby hence we stopped with my US neuro''s guidance, all my meds -- he still prescribes my medication and we have it mailed as it is available here, just can't find a prescriber (topirimate approved for migraine in Sept 08 here). I was getting excellent help with topirimate/topamax and now am very sick (migraine for over a week -- have taken sumatriptan as I am not yet pregnant, but nothing else available other than panadol or codeine). Unfotunately, we've tried six neuros of the 60 availalbe and we just get turned down so there is nobody I can see and have the same working relationship as I would have had... I am trying to get any available updates to the already posted response on 9/10/07 for migraine management in pregnancy (for example: what info have the drug registries yielded to present...) -- or simply any other advice. Thanks!

Daisy,

For anyone who isn't familiar with that response, you can take a look at Managing Migraines During Pregnancy.

There are a couple of new bits of information about preventive medications during pregnancy, but the news is not good:

      •  Valproate Unsafe for Migraine Pregnancy During Pregnancy

       •  Migraine Preventive Topamax May Cause Birth Defects

If you want to know what the drug registries are showing, ask your doctor to find out for you. They're readily avalable to physicians everywhere, not just in the US.

Good luck,

Teri
