Q: Teri, What correlation is there between weather changes and migraine?

And, if so, why?  What's going on inside? Thank you! Rosalind M.

Hi, Rosalind,

For many of use, weather changes are a Migraine trigger. We have an article on this, Migraines Often Triggered By Change In the Weather.

We don't fully understand what's "going on inside," but the prevalent theory for this trigger is that barometric pressure changes from weather changes, flying, or changes in altitude affect our cerebrospinal fluid pressure, which can trigger a Migraine.

Some people have found that taking Diamox when they're flying, going to a higher altitude, or when a weather front is coming in can help prevent some of those Migraines. It's certainly worth discussing with your doctor.

Thanks for the great question!

I don't know what's going on inside, but I know that when it's sunny and cold w/ no precipitation in sight, I feel great.  If it's warm or there's any chance of any kind of precipitation, I suffer.  Does anyone else experience the same?

yes mine are caused by a head injury and I hurt right were the injury is, the back of my eyes and were the skull was damaged. Plus my ears feel clogged like when your in a plane. In Arpril and May I have a migraine 3/4 the time I love spring because it turns everything pretty and green again so that helps me indure my migraines
